About Marking Language School
Welcome to Marking Language School (MLS), the Home of excellent language learning, situated in Braamfontein, a safe area in the cosmopolitan city of Johannesburg, where many Colleges, Universities and many other Tertiary Institutions are found. The school offers a wide range of English and French courses and services. This includes translation of all types of documents and interpreting services.
Marking Language School also offers in-house corporate French and English courses. Our teachers are University Graduates and are experienced in the field of language teaching, translating and interpreting.

Marking Language School is a proud partner of Oxford University Press and uses the World’s acclaimed and most trusted English program, the New Headway. All our levels last 2 months each and include several progress tests to ensure swift improvement in all our teaching areas. A full English program lasts 12 months and our levels are as follows:
Beginner Level (Oxford New Headway)
This level is aimed at absolute beginners, or those who have learned a little English but lack the confidence to build on it. Its measured, step-by-step approach builds both skills and confidence. The right mix of language work and plentiful practice material enables learners to consolidate their knowledge of key points before proceeding further. The clearly defined grammatical syllabus includes past, present and future time and provides a thorough basis on which to build. The presentation of new language is gradual, methodical and clearly structured, giving learners a clear sense of progression.
The vocabulary syllabus focuses on high-frequency survival terms and avoids overload. The gradual introduction of simple skills work with manageable communicative activities gives learners a sense of achievement. Our 'Everyday English' section practices social expressions in common situations and shows how learners can apply their knowledge in practical ways.
Elementary Level (Oxford New Headway)
At this level, learners use present, past and future with confidence; begin to use continuous tenses and dependent clauses. Presentations and descriptions are more complex and effective.
Pre-Intermediate Level (Oxford New Headway)
At this level, learners use simple and continuous present and past tenses with confidence; begin to feel comfortable with passive and subjunctive/conditional moods. Sentences and descriptions are much more complex and precise. They become comfortable with Present Perfect, both Simple and Continuous.
Intermediate Level (Oxford New Headway)
At this level, learners are able to employ contrastive present, past and future tenses with confidence. Present and Past Perfect, both active and passive, are handled well and compound tenses are beginning to be used in a more natural manner. Speaking and presentations demonstrate growing confidence and effectiveness.
Upper-Intermediate Level (Oxford New Headway)
Compound tenses such as future perfect and present perfect/past perfect continuous are understood and used more comfortably; students understand and effectively use timelines and contrastive tenses. Presentations are confident, detailed and demonstrate not only skill in Grammar, but also style and effective mood.
Advanced Level (Oxford New Headway)
At this level, learners demonstrate a full operational command of English at a high level in most situations.
